Biography of Martha Lynn Lawson

marthaportraitI've always seen my father digging in the dirt to create gorgeous gardens. Whenever he touched the earth, lovely things were made and so I was drawn to play with earth early. As a child, my attention was caught by a potter throwing in the busy St. Jacobs Farmers Market. It was magical. My mother urged me to watch and so I saw a lump of clay drawn upwards into a functional form. My first throwing opportunity was at sixteen years old and it was not magical by any means. I have come quite far since my three-pound teapot in high school and have now found the joy of throwing functional pottery.
